Hopefully The Last Post About LLM

I take a rest from writing because I felt like my brain was mushy like porridge. Reading my own writing, "holy fuck ESL-chan so cringe". Perhaps because I actually chatted in Indonesian for hours, the language switching gear was halted. Overcoming internal embarrassment, Bear post editor here I come.

Well, it's not like I'm absent from my blog entirely. I uploaded something on Rakugaki page. Drawing side of my brain took turn.

Anyways, as usual I have several thoughts. Continuing previous posts that were related to LLM, I dirtied my hand in the mud and experimented with image generation. Firstly, the mainstream one was Gemini. I flinched when I saw a school nearby printed a banner that was obviously done with Gemini. It's like "EWWW THOSE KAWAII ANIME STYLE AI". Then, a university few meters down the road, they also hang the similar Gemini-style banner. I have no hope for Indonesian normies' tech literacy.

Hm, what did I ask Gemini to generate though? My own OCs, of course. Art fundamental-wise, it's not horrible. The problem is, the LLM can't capture specific detail I would like to portray in my own characters, hard to explain. If there was a technology that could project images in my head directly I would use it, but thankfully I am too nitpicky for AI jpgs.

I can go self-deprecate like "Oh, my drawings are horrible, there's no point in actually putting effort, blablabla". Yet I'm annoyed with the lack of "me" in supposedly my own characters.

Then, I tried PixAI. Once I landed upon the website, holy fuck. The images are Japanese Twitter/Pixiv fanart level of polish, maybe we can suspect people who pump high render drawings daily are using AI in some way. I understand, it's the way around. These companies scrapes previously existing user data. I used to be jealous at Japanese artists because they gather solid engagement just because they're "Japanese" (favoritism is real), but now I feel relief.. somehow? I can be my own thing.

What did I generate in PixAI? Ehm, the answer is still the same, but I go extreme a bit since they allow NSFW. The AI is bad at depicting anatomically accurate genitals, especially the one that are not... typical? I mean, hetero couple. Again, art fundamental wise it's pretty good. But I can't stop the itch "I want to freaking fix the detail myself, and seek real life reference" lol

The third one is perchance, I knew this site for a long time already. In fact, it's the first AI image generator I tried. It suffers the same problem with Gemini, the images looks GENERIC, and suffers the same problem with PixAI, bad at depicting anatomy other than conventionally attractive human. My OCs might have thousand doppelgangers out there and they're boring as fuck, but holy shit I hate conformity so much.

"AI art has no soul" phrase irks me because ironically, every users in internet echo the same sentiment over and over again until they become hivemind. Choose more creative insults, like "the lack of individuality scares me and unsettling". You can't read the personality behind these images. It becomes mass produced, factory-made "creativity".

Anyway, another A-ha moment crossed my mind was, the internet has been "hyper-individualized". Namely, echo chamber is one of the aspect. What I mean is everything in internet can be set according to your preference. By ease of AI creating your own entertainment, maybe you want some catgirl AI who will tease you endlessly and you generate fuckton images of her.. then why even bother sharing and consuming products of other mind? Like, as an artist I was told I need to follow the algorithm and create artworks that easy to be liked and approved by the mass. What's the point? Why can't we just be selfish instead? It's not like the degenerates will bat an eye even though I try hard to be people-pleaser. Who cares if I only draw two men that no one knows but me, and write rants horribly?

My creative projects are my dirty secret. Perhaps I will write about it next, so we can move on from LLM topics. Or, since tomorrow is Thursday, I will pull on Limbus Company's Walpurgisnacht gacha. Hype.
